ABOUT US
Social StudiesĀ is the integrated study of history, geography, economics, civics, citizenship and government. More importantly, it is the study of humanity, of people and events that individually and collectively have affected the world. The Social Studies Department is focused on providing social studies educators with the tools they need to help students make sense of the world in which they live, allow them to make connections between major ideas and their own lives, and help them see themselves as members of the world community.
Passport to Social Studies is the NYCDOE developed social studies curriculum. Passport aligns to the NYC Social Studies Scope & Sequence and integrates the New York State Social Studies Framework to support effective and engaging social studies teaching and learning. Each yearly Passport course of study is organized around units of study guided by essential questions. Teachers can use the units of study to plan coherent instruction that considers relevant skills, practices, and knowledge objectives for deep historical understanding.
