Join NYC’s Department of Social Studies and Civics at the Intrepid Museum for an America 250 Voices Then, Voices Now professional learning session. Attendees will explore how individuals and groups experience the military and war as well as the social movements that developed in the history of the U.S. military. This session equips teachers with lesson plans, materials, and strategies drawn from Hidden Voices, Passport to Social Studies, and the museum’s lessons and collections. This session is in collaboration with the Intrepid Museum. Participants will explore the museum and consider connections between the Intrepid’s classroom resources and experiences and the NYC’s efforts to explore teaching America 250. Participants will leave the session with ready to use resources and materials for civics and social studies instruction. In addition, this professional learning will include a keynote about the Montford Point Marines, the pioneering first African American men who enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, by historian Trevor Getz.
