Join the Tenement Museum and special guest author Clint Smith for a Professional Learning celebrating the publication of Smith’s new youth edition of How the Word is Passed: Remembering Slavery and How it Shaped America.
Participants will begin the day by experiencing the Museum’s newest exhibit, A Union of Hope, about Joseph and Rachel Moore, a Black family living in Lower Manhattan tenements in the 1860s. Explore their daily life in a tenement community, and connect their story to the Civil War and Reconstruction in New York City. Participants will learn how to bring these stories to their students through field trips, primary sources, and the Tenement Museum’s new civics program, Flags of Hope.
In the afternoon, participants will meet with Clint Smith for a conversation and Q+A on his new book and the work of engaging students in the complexity of history. Every participant will receive a gift copy of the youth edition of How the Word is Passed, and be entered to win a free field trip!
Once your registration is confirmed you will receive a confirmation email.
