During this professional learning session, participants will unpack the Passport program design and components while examining the skills focused on in the 10h grade Unit 5 Global History and Geography course, Tensions Between Traditional Cultures and Modernization. During the session attendees will explore supports and strategies for teaching the Enduring Issues Essay from the Regents Exam in Global History and Geography II. All participants will receive copies of the Passport to Social Studies Unit 5 Teacher’s Guide.

In this afterschool session, elementary educators explore the untold story about a courageous young woman once owned by one of the most significant first families in the new nation. Author and historian, Erica Armstrong Dunbar presents “Never Caught, the Story of Ona Judge,” an eye-opening account of an enslaved woman who risked everything to reach freedom. Participants will receive a copy of the young readers’ edition and related primary source materials from the New-York Historical Society’s collections.
